As usual ever day i sign in to my adsense account to see how much revenue i made. I am very sure any blogger who is an adsense publisher do the same routine. And as usual i received new message from adsense about new ad management overview. This features will be rolling out in a phases in another few weeks. Just wait and see the changes in our publisher account for adsense latest feature.

Finally, the re-paste work is over. When i made a changes in my adsense ad, i need to re-paste the adsense code at my site too. But this time, google adsense seems to know what their publisher thinking. The new ad management feature allow it user to save details about an AdSense unit, including ad size, colors, and channel settings, on google adsense servers. Keeping the details on servers is much better than in the ad code on your pages, you can make changes to the AdSense units on your pages from within your account. Don't you think this is really good news!

Now google offer an option for us to create new AdSense units which we can customize and update within our account to see changes directly on our site. Example, when i creating new AdSense unit, details of the ad unit (like colors and channels) will be stored in my AdSense account. This gives me faster, simpler ad management, allowing me to make changes to an AdSense unit instantly without needing to re-paste the ad code or make additional changes to the page itself. The option to manage ads from within our account is only available for adsense for content units for the time being.

Just wait and see google adsense next level.

Google Apps Gets Enterprise Partner

Google Apps, Google service for running corporate email, calendaring and documents, has gotten a new partner in the form of Capgemini, a major systems consulting firm. Capgemini will incorporate Google Apps into its outsourcing service, which currently manages over a million corporate desktop PCs. The goal of the partnership is to bring Apps into larger companies, past just the educational and small business clients the service currently enjoys.

Regarding the big question, if Google Apps is even ready for big companies, Nick Carr got an interesting answer from Capgemini outsourcing exec Steve Jones:

I asked Jones about the commonly heard claim that Google Apps, while fine for little organizations, isn’t “enterprise-ready.” He scoffed at the notion, saying that the objection is just a smokescreen that some CIOs are “hiding behind.” Google Apps, he says, is “already being used covertly” in big companies, behind the backs of IT staffers. The time has come, he argues, to bring Apps into the mainstream of IT management in order to ensure that important data is safeguarded and compliance requirements are met. Jones foresees “a lot of big companies” announcing the formal adoption of Apps.

They go on to say that Apps will be marketed as a complement to Microsoft Office, but that it should prove a good idea for employees who the company can’t afford to give copies of Office. Both are interesting arguments, but here’s a counter:

Yes, some employees are using Gmail behind the scenes instead of their corporate email, but plenty are using Hotmail or Yahoo Mail. Employees are always going to have personal webmail accounts in addition to their corporate accounts, and it proves no trend.

If the arguments goes beyond that, that employees are collaborating in secret with Google Docs, as surprising as that may be, it wouldn’t surprise me if plenty of those employees are also using OpenOffice. In fact, It would surprise me even less if stats backed up this hypothesis: More outsourced employees, without licensed copies of Microsoft Office, are pirating Office than using a free alternative.

I’ve long argued that at $50 per user per year, Apps is either barely cheaper than Microsoft Office, or actually more expensive as that subscription fee adds up. This decision can’t be made on a purely financial basis, but has to be won on features.

Both Carr and TechCrunch point out the obvious problems with accounting under current U.S. law, and the fact that no new customers were being announced with this news. Supposedly a big telco is going to announce a switch to Google Apps on some of its computers, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Google marks itself as spam

Philipp Lenssen noticed recently that the Google Custom Search blog, maintained by Google, was “marked as spam”. It’s scary to see this happen to an official Google blog because if it can happen to them, there is absolutely nothing to stop it from happening to you. The official blog was replaced by a single post by “Srikanth” saying:

Google Custom Search, is the wonderful product from Google which many webmasters have been looking and dream for. It allows webmasters to create their own custom search engines to search only the sites he/she wants.

Also Google Custom Search is integrated with Ad-sense, which means make money while keeping users on your site for longer time with custom search engine.

You could be writing a blog for months, following all the rules — then out of the blue Google could delete your blog and all it’s content, then let some random person start blogging on that very same domain.

Whoops! We accidentally classified ourselves as spam, and our ever-perceptive Blogger settings caught us. The Custom Search Blog has since been restored, and we’re taking steps to ensure this doesn’t happen with other Google blogs in the future. Other Blogger users can make sure this doesn’t happen to them by reporting any problems to the Blogger support team via the Blogger Help Center at http://www.blogger.com/problem.g. We can then investigate.

Should this happen to you, contact Google immediately to explain the situation so they can investigate. It would be nice to have more clarification from Google about what actually happened here, and what happens when a blog is “marked as spam”. From this most recent demonstration, it appears your blog is completely deleted and put back into the list of available blog names — allowing anybody to register it. What can we possibly do to stop this from happening to innocent bloggers?

Google defies their own “send you away” strategy with Google News

Google has publicly stated on several occasions that they are not interested in keeping users on their site — they want people to find information and leave Google as quickly as possible — but their latest move is a sign that Google is taking a second look at that strategy.

Instead of sending people to any site hosting content from Press Association, Associated Press, Canadian Press and Agence France-Presse, Google has decided to license articles and host them directly. The pages hosting the articles are plain — you get the article you want, and basically nothing else (not even ads).

This move has been in the making for several years — and frankly, it is hard to understand why it took so long. Google has the infrastructure to store these articles, and it gives them all kinds of flexibility they never had before. For example, they could add features such as live chat or comments on these hosted article pages if they wanted.

There is the possibility that other sites that host this same content will be slightly ticked off now that traffic coming from Google will completely disappear — potentially causing quite a bit of lost ad revenue. It will be interesting to see how Google handles the backlash when it happens.

Google kicks Microsoft where it hurts, again

Do you know about Google Updater? There is a good chance you have it installed on your computer already as it’s bundled with other Google products like the browser toolbar. Well, in what seems to be an obvious attempt to steal even more users away from Microsoft Office products, Google just added “StarOffice” to the the list of available downloads that can be installed and updated automatically through Google Pack. If you download it directly from Sun, it will cost you around $70, however Google appears to be giving it away for free — or at least there isn’t a nag screen or an obvious way to upgrade to a full version.

Web applications like Google Docs are very useful in many circumstances, but for power users who need, or prefer, a fat client to do their work — there was no real choice but to keep using Microsoft Office if they don’t know about this suite.

StarOffice, which includes their own version of Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word, is developed by Sun — but Google has been throwing resources at it since October, 2005. I am going to assume there is a plugin under development that lets users create documents on their PC and synchronize them with their online counterpart through Google Docs. StarOffice already has hooks into Google’s search and desktop capabilities.

It should be interesting to see if this move helps Sun get more exposure for StarOffice. What do you think? Are you surprised Google made this product available through the Google Updater? Will this affect Microsoft in any way?

How Google Detects Click Fraud

A lot of Google AdSense publishers are banned from the Google AdSense program for click fraud. Some of these Google AdSense publishers manage to get their AdSense account reinstated. However, majority of them failed to do so. As a result, they are banned from the Google AdSense program.

Google does not reveal any specific details on how they define click fraud. They do not disclose their proprietary click fraud detection technology as well. As a result of that, publishers would not be able to report any click fraud activities on their website.

However, Google does provide general definition of invalid clicks. It may be a good idea to learn how Google defines invalid clicks and how they detect click fraud.

Google defines invalid clicks as:

Manual clicks intended to increase publisher’s advertising
Clicks by automated tools, robots, or other deceptive software.

So how does Google detect click fraud activities on your website? How would they know which clicks are invalid? Google AdSense team uses three powerful tools to detect invalid clicks:

Detection and filtering techniques: Each click on an AdSense ad is monitored by Google system. Google will record the IP of each click, the time of the click, duplicate clicks and various click patterns. Google will use these factors and filter out potential invalid clicks.

Advanced monitoring techniques: Google uses its proprietary software to monitor click fraud activity. They are constantly working to improve their click fraud detection technology.

The Google Team: In addition, Google has a team that uses specialized tools and techniques to examine individual case of click fraud. When Google system detects potentially invalid clicks, a member of this team will examines the affected account.

Despite the effort that Google put in to improve their invalid clicks detection technology, Google does not provide any click fraud protection for publishers. It is very hard for publishers to prove that they have nothing to do with the click fraud activities on their website. It is equally hard for Google AdSense team to believe that the publishers have nothing to do with the click fraud activities on their websites. It is often too late for publishers when they receive the AdSense termination letter from Google AdSense team.

There are few innocent publishers whose AdSense account has been terminated because of a sudden spike in their AdSense earnings. This sudden jump in AdSense earnings is due to the sudden jump in website traffic. The spike in their AdSense earnings would probably raise the red flag in Google click fraud detection system and had their accounts terminated. Google “Sky”—New Virtual Telescope Using NASA Hubble Images Plans to Turn Millions into Stargazers

Popular mapping service Google Earth is launching a new feature called Sky, a "virtual telescope" that will allow millions of Internet users to become full-fledged stargazers. Supernovas and the most remote, ancient galaxies are now just a mouse click away through Sky in Google Earth.

The old Google Earth gave Internet users an “astronaut's view” that can zoom in all the way to street level. Google says the new service also provides a reversed outlook that will let us look out into space in the opposite direction—giving user’s an “astronomer’s view”, as well. The hope is to turn millions of Internet users into stargazers by giving them a fun ‘playground’ for discovering not just our earth, but the entire universe.

"Never before has a roadmap of the entire sky been made so readily available," said Dr. Carol Christian an astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute, who co-led the institutes's Sky team.

"Sky in Google Earth will foster and initiate new understanding of the universe by bringing it to everyone's home computer."

"You have seen the Hubble images of objects such as the Eagle Nebula, the so-called pillars of creation," said Christian. "With Sky in Google Earth you can see where the objects are located in space, including the constellations in which they reside. Then you can discover other cool objects in nearby regions of the sky. And you don't have to know anything about astronomy to use the program."

Similar to Google Earth, Sky will enable users to float and zoom in on over 100 million individual stars and 200 million galaxies. Users will view the sky as seen from earth.

The backyard astronomy layer lets users click through stars, galaxies and nebulae visible to the eye, binoculars and small telescopes. Users can also delve into deeper layers, which will show the life of a star, constellations, and high-rez images provided by the Hubble Space Telescope along with a “users guide to galaxies”.

The imagery was compiled from numerous third parties including the Digital Sky Survey Consortium, the United Kingdom Astronomy Technology Centre and the Anglo-Australian Observatory. The imagery will be updated over time as new visual discoveries come to light.

"We're excited to provide users with rich astronomical imagery and enhanced content that enables them to both learn about what they're seeing and tell their own stories," said Google Product Manager Lior Ron in a statement.

"By working with some of the industry's leading experts, we've been able to transform Google Earth into a virtual telescope."

Google Earth soon became a hit after launching in June 2005 to combine its search service with satellite imagery, maps and 3D building to display the world’s geographical information.

According to Google, over 250 million people have already downloaded it.

The Sky service will soon be available on all Google Earth domains, in 13 languages. Users will need to download the newest version of Google Earth, which can be found at

If you have a blog or website, you probably know that Google AdSense is a great way to monetize your content and earn a few bucks. Some people make a fortune with AdSense, while other site owners only make a few pennies a day.

You need lots of visitors to your site

Have you ever wondered exactly what it takes to rake in tons of money with AdSense? Well there are a few basic tenets of AdSense success:

Those three points are common knowledge - if you do any reading about how to “do” AdSense, that’s what you’ll hear. All common sense stuff, too.

So let me share something with you that’s not as commonly known: there is a way to more precisely target your ads toward your visitors. The reason this is important should be obvious - if the ads are relevant to the subject matter, your readers are more likely to be interested in the ads and of course they’ll be more likely to click on them. So how do you target the ads? I’ll tell you a few ways. Let’s call them AdSense hacks.

Have a strategic naming structure. When at all possible, make sure the directory and filenames of your pages contain the best possible keywords. If a page is about “Spider-Man comic books” make sure either the path or the filename contains those words. Keep in mind that dashes are seen as keyword separators by Google (as opposed to underscores, which are ignored). By doing this, it increases the likelihood that Google will know which ads are most appropriate to display.
Filter your ads. In your AdSense account, go to AdSense Setup and click on the Competitive Ad Filter. In the box, type the domain names of the low-paying ads or ads you don’t wish to be displayed.

Use the Section Targeting feature. Google has a little-talked-about feature called Section Targeting that allows you to specify to Google where your content begins and ends. In effect it allows you to tell them, “Here - this is the part that matters. This is the part that I want you to base your ads on."

Targeting your ads can make all the difference in the world. So if you have decent traffic to your site but don’t have the click-throughs or if you simply aren’t making much per click, try implementing these “hacks” and see if you make more money.

More originality: Google starts user comments service

The U.S. verson of Google News has begun allowing people and groups involved in news stories to post their comments about the story, said media reports Thursday.

People or groups that are cited in news stories can submit comments to the Google News team, which will then display those comments — unedited — alongside the Google News links to those stories.

The process is not for everyone, and in fact requires a lengthy verification process of sending off your comment and credentials to a special Google e-mail address, and later verifying your identity via domain name and an e-mail follow-up from Google staff, the reports added.

Google will work with each author individually to confirm their identity by contacting the organization affiliated with the author, contacting local officials or collaborating with journalists, according to the company.

If you pass the test, your comment will show up alongside the article, the reports added.

The new system will at first be deployed only within the U.S., but Google is open to expanding it to other regions if the trial goes well.

The move was "to enhance the news experience for readers," Google software engineers Dan Meredith and Andy Golding stated in a blog post.
Once the new system is in place, Google News will feature something it has never had before: original content. There's a certain amount of "originality" in aggregating news sources from around the world and organizing them into easy-to-click topics.

As a result, Google's move may increase the competition in the online news industry, the reports suggested.

Google AdSense for Games Coming “Soon”

Google’s Bernie Stolar and Greg Schaffer spoke at the Casual Connect game convention this week and shared details of Google’s plans to bring AdWords to video games via “AdSense for Games.”

…game publishers will be able to use the Google system to put advertising in their games, and advertisers will be able to work through the Google system to buy ad space within games. Schaffer said it will start with ads in Web-based games, with plans to move into PC and console games later on.

Google will roll out both video and text-based ads, but there’s no timeframe for launch, other than “soon.”

And in case anyone thought Google might have an interest in developing their own video games - they don’t.

“I’m going to be very clear right now,” Stolar said. “Google is involved in in-game advertising. I’m going to say it one more time, in case there’s any misconceptions here: in-game advertising. This is an area that Google believes will have tremendous growth over the next number of years. …”

“No Gbox, Bernie?” asked Google’s Greg Schaffer, playing along.
Nope, no plans for a console, Stolar said. And no “Google Live,” no video-game portal, and no video-game search, he said. Later, Stolar reiterated, “We are not going to be a publisher or a developer or a portal for games, at all. That’s the jobs of everybody here. That’s why we want to partner with you.”

So you heard them loud and clear - they’re planning to build mobile video games.

Google AdSense disabling arbitrage publisher accounts as of June 1st

Numerous AdSense publishers have been receiving emails from Google the past couple of days stating that their use of their AdSense account is an unsuitable business model and that accounts would be disabled as of June 1st, giving publishers about two weeks notice to prepare for the loss of the AdSense accounts... and since it seems that arbitrage publishers are the ones receiving this account disabled email, to give those publisher enough time to shut down accounts or use an alternative source for their outgoing traffic।

Right now, I have only heard from those doing either "Made for AdSense" style of sites or those doing arbitrage, and it does include publishers making significant money per month ($10,000 USD and higher). So they are not giving a pass to those who are earning above a certain threshold. And it seems that no one who is outside of the arbitrage/MFA area of AdSense earnings has been affected thus far.
And good news is that Google will be paying out earnings to those publishers, so they do not need to worry that they will lose any income earned thus far.

Now, the emails do seem to be staggered, so if you are running arbitrage through your AdSense account, there is always the possibility that you can stop all your pay per click campaigns and hopefully slide through. Likewise, you can try immediately increasing the quality on your "Made for AdSense" style sites or remove them completely, particularly if you do have sites within your account that are non-arbitrage with quality content. But one can assume that account history will play a big part when it comes to these emails being sent out, and having only a couple of non-arbitrage days might not be enough to avoid the email.

There doesn't seem to be any appeal process, other than the usual one. And I wouldn't hold my breath that any of these accounts would be reinstated, unless it is a case of some higher quality non-arbitrage sites using the account as well.

From a business perspective, it does make perfect sense for Google to make this move, since so many Google AdWords advertisers refuse to advertise on the content network because there are so many "Made for AdSense" style sites as well as those doing arbitrage. So in the long run, it could mean more money for publishers if/as advertisers return to the content network.

And if you are not doing MFA or arbitrage? The bad news is that you too will be impacted, although not on an account disabling level. A secondary impact to this is that many of those doing arbitrage with AdWords will likely be pulling their AdWords campaigns unless they can find a suitable alternative to AdSense. This could inadvertantly cause a reduction in AdSense earnings for legitimate publishers as well, at least in the short term. But as I said previously, if the advertisers return to the content network, it would mean more eventual money for publishers, depending on how long it takes for advertisers to start opting back in.
Since Google seems to be targeting the whole area of arbitrage (such as the landing page algo for the AdWords quality score that made it harder for arbitrage advertisers to get cheap clicks through AdWords), I think the way they are handling these instances of disabling publisher accounts is much better than what they could have done. Publishers are getting a couple of weeks notice to ensure they aren't sending paid traffic to pages that will no longer be allowed to show AdSense, and they have also guaranteed to those publishers that they will still receive earnings earned, even though the accounts will be disabled.

It will be interesting to see what happens as of June first. Will the Yahoo Publisher Network see a sudden influx of aribtrage publishers? Very likely, since the majority of disabled US publishers turn to YPN as a new method of monetizing that traffic.

There has not been any kind of official word from Google on this, as of yet, other than the form letter style communications with the publishers whose accounts are being disabled. But it will definitely be something to watch to see how it does all spin out for both the disabled publishers as well as Google.

Next Big Threat: Affiliation Networks for Hackers

The next big threat to Web security has less to do with phishing and more to do with affiliation networks, according to a recent Web security report.

According to Finjan, a San Jose, Calif.-based Web security provider, hackers are now using sophisticated affiliation networks that provide a hosting model for malicious code. Webmasters and bloggers who include the infected code on their sites are then paid according to the number of infected visitors they accumulate.

Think Google AdSense -- but for hackers.

Users who run blogs or small Web sites can generate small money through services such as Google AdSense or DoubleClick.

"You hope somebody will click on those ads to get some pennies," Yuval Ben-Itzhak, CTO of Finjan, said. "But, hackers have realized that with their own affiliation programs, they can encourage bloggers and Webmasters to include their hidden ads in exchange for big dollars."

In a malicious code package obtained by Finjan, payouts are shown to range from as low as US$15 to as high as $500 (per 1000 infected users) depending on the country. Interestingly, generating infected users from Australia will earn affiliates the high dollar amount.

Ben-Itzhak said that these hackers can afford pay these huge rates because of the valuable information they gather from infected users.

"The malicious code includes Trojans and keyloggers that collect data, such as credit card information, which is later sold online for big profits," Ben-Itzhak said. "And because the code is hidden, everyone visiting the site won't suspect it's been compromised and the Webmaster won't be alerted either."

Ronald O'Brien, senior security analyst at anti-spam software provider Sophos, said that this form of infection is often seen in Web 2.0 sites such as Wikipedia and MySpace because they allow user editing. However, he said, these techniques have now made their way to traditional Web sites.

"Web sites that don't necessarily promote editing, but because they are architecturally insecure, allow this type of hacking to occur," O'Brien said. "Plus, people who threw up Web sites for the purpose of having a presence on the Web, often did so by using an open-source code, and this has effectively left the keys in the lock for hackers to exploit."

But Ben-Itzhak said, pretty much any site can be at risk, as these affiliation network techniques have even been used when compromising highly popular Web sites or government domains.

"When we contact the site owners, they are usually surprised and don't believe they are infected," he said. "But when we show them the code they are shocked."

Ben-Itzhak said that hackers who can successfully insert malicious code into highly popular and reputable sites are often in a win-win situation. "Firstly, the high-traffic Web sites lead to more users," he said. "Secondly, these high-traffic sites will never be blocked by URL filtering and reputation services because they are established domains."

This represents a major change from several years ago, when hackers were content with simply changing a Web site's graphics in order to prove they had defaced it, Ben-Itzhak said.

Statistically, he estimated about 90 percent of malware code found on the Internet today is using hidden code techniques, whether on high-traffic sites or through affiliation partnerships.

O'Brien agreed, while also citing his company's research to the increase in malicious Web content.

"At the beginning of this year, we were seeing on average between 5,000 and 7,000 Web pages a day that were hosting malicious content," O'Brien said. "This past June, just six months later, that number is at 29,000 pages per day."

With these invisible techniques, nothing is being aesthetically changed on the page. And coupling this with the affiliation program may prove to be a deadly combination.

"These malware writers are basically introducing business concepts into there operation," O'Brien said. "They are actually measuring the effectiveness of their affiliates and paying them accordingly. We have simply never seen this level of sophistication."

For IT managers wanting to protect their employees while surfing the Web at work, Ben-Itzhak advices enterprises to add a security product that relies on real-time content inspection rather than URL or reputation attributes.

"I would add a technology that inspects the content as it's about to enter the network and based on the intended behavior of that code," Ben-Itzhak said. "If the code is about to change settings, install software, or delete files on my end-user machine, the code would be blocked on that parameter and not go inside the network."

gPhones for Everybody!

The kids in Mountain View (i.e.; Google) just never slow down.

As if Google Base, Google Maps, Earth, Apps, Gmail, AdWords, AdSense, Blogger, YouTube, and on, and on, aren't enough, they want in on wireless too.

The FCC is looking to open bidding on the 700 MHz spectrum in 2008. I'll let Wired handle the explanation of it all, but Google made some progress on a few of their wish list items.

Now there are rumors that they are prototyping a device of their own. These rumors have been out for quite a while truth be told, Google working on a phone that is. The stories circulating indicate that Google will want to make the device and service essentially open by supporting it with Ads.

(purely a guess - not to be seen as an accurate representation!!)

Until recently, this would have been folly. Mobile ads in the US simply haven't taken off yet, but that may be changing soon. By in large, the mobile experience isn't all that great due to devices. Apple is changing all of that with the iPhone. Bugs and carrier complaints aside, it must be recognized that the innovation of presentation has started a massive change. Now the browsing experience on the mobile device is very similar to the experience on a computer. This familiarity will probably push innovation and uptake more than anything else.

With mobile devices now becoming real connectivity devices, Google has a whole new playground to frolic in. With web-based apps, now Gmail and Google Maps (as just two examples) make a lot more sense on these handhelds, and as such, there is a whole new inventory for Google to display ads. At this point, financially, it's a more realistic model.

With archaic, monolithic, wireless providers holding customers hostage with limited phone choices and awful monthly plans, it's nice to see someone shaking, or trying to shake up, the norm.

I just hope Google remembers to thank Apple for this opportunity. (Though I'm sure Eric Schmidt - sitting on the Apple board - has probably had a chance to thank Steve Jobs personally.)

There is no free lunch, even in cyberspace. Had the industry heeded that little piece of ubiquitous advice during the dotcom boom years, the bust might never have happened. After wasting hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising (does "because pets can't drive!" ring any bells?), the industry learned that the best way to make money online - sans actually selling something tangible - is by selling ad space, not buying it.

Maybe it's no surprise that two of the companies that have learned this lesson best are both sitting in key positions in the industry today: Microsoft and Google. It's also no surprise that these two are each other's biggest competitors in term of managing online advertising.

It's far too early to tell who will win the war, but Google lost one battle last week. Digg.com, which claims it receives over 17 million visitors a month, ditched Google's AdSense, instead opting for a three-year deal with Microsoft to manage its online advertising.

Google has been offering AdSence since 2003. At the time it came out, it provided small business with a way to get their products listed on Google's main search page, but not much has been done to enhance AdSense as a business option since. The price of using AdSence has skyrocketed as competition in the bid-for-prime-position scheme has increased, and click fraud - where competing advertisers can drive up the price of rival advertising by repeatedly clicking on pay-per-click ads - has frustrated many users. Google claims to be aggressively combating this type of fraud.

Google Inc. has begun inviting mobile Web site developers to display Google ads on their sites as part of a limited beta test.

The offer extends to the mobile environment Google's AdSense program which lets Web site developers earn revenue by placing advertisements on their sites. Google runs the backend network that places ads on the sites relevant to site content. Site owners earn revenue when visitors click on the ads.

Sites must be written in one of three mobile markup languages including WML (Wireless Markup Language), XHTML (Extensible Hypertext Markup Language) and CHTML (Compact HTML) in order to use AdSense for Mobile, according to a Google AdSense for Mobile help page. That's because Google's crawlers must be able to read the page in those languages to determine page content and serve up relevant ads.

LinkBucks - A Unique Way to Monetize Outbound Links

I have to say that I'm rarely impressed by new ideas in website monetization, but Linkbucks, as a concept, is fairly revolutionary. The idea is that Linkbucks will display ads on the websites and pages you link to - check out their site for more.

They answered a few of my initial questions on the homepage:

Currently we pay you $1 US for every 5000 top banner ad impressions, and $1 US for every 3500 intermission ad impressions.

This tells me there's the option to display a banner on the page you link to, or the option to use interstitial-style pages, which pay out more (but are undoubtedly more annoying for users).

The problems are inherent - your users are suffering through additional advertising for using your site as a reference point. However, some might claim that it's better than showing ads on your own site, and I have little doubt that there are some fairly spammy ways to abuse this network (I note that the site already only counts clicks from certain countries).

If anyone's given this service a shot and has experience, I'd be thrilled to hear your take.

Widgets are everywhere on the screen of your PC (when it is on, of course). Buttons, labels, panels, edit boxes are interface components and “interface component” is just another name of the thing that is called “widget”. Widgets can be simple like labels or complex like spreadsheets. Some of them consist of thousands of another widgets, some of them are atomic and implemented only with underlying API. On the web, a thing which I’m constantly talking about, the “underlying API”, or methods that the developer can use for widget building, includes HTML, JavaScript, DHTML, CCS, Ajax and many other technologies. The Clock on the top left corner is also a widget.

A lot of widgets have been already created and you can use almost all of them in your Web applications. The market leaders offer you robust toolkits with widget sets that contain general-purpose interface components like buttons, textboxes, trees. Some of them also include components for supporting various animation effects. A few teams focus mainly on one widget: rich editors or accessible menu. These teams create excellent components, but an advantage of the toolkit widget sets is an integration. Toolkit widgets can work together on one form: controls, validators, I/O classes can be easily placed and configured on a Web page.

So, if there are a lot of existent components, why to create new widgets? The answer rises when you want to reuse a group of tightly connected interface components of your application. It can be very simple and trivial solution to use “copy/paste” reusing when you want to reuse the code only once, but each such duplication increases maintenance time. Each defect in the duplicated code should be fixed twice. When you remember where a second copy of the code is. Or, which I wish never happen, a third one.

AdSense - automation for the people

I've a friend who got really excited about AdSense when I explained
to him that you could make money simply by combining web content
with traffic and that Google would pay you.

He's a smart guy (lives quite near me actually in the UK) and he
immediately suggested that I should build a template system that
would let you build a load of websites really easily that you could
then add AdSense too in order to build up a steady stream of income
generators.

You can see the attractions of such a system, especially if you do
some math.

Suppose such a site made you 82c a day. It's not a lot but it adds
up to 300 dollars a year.

If a decent template system let you build such a site in a couple
of hours, then you'd essentially be working for 150 dollars an
hour which is great unless you are a lawyer already.

But wait a moment. It doesn't stop at the end of the first year
because your income could continue for after that year too.

You could actually get double this or more over time.

Anyway, I recently heard something via the grapevine that
sounded pretty close to an AdSense template solution.

I had some immediate questions.

- how did it work?
- where did the content come from?
- was it any good?
- was it expensive?

So I tracked down the designers â€“ both Brits as it happens like
me â€“ and phoned them up for a chat. In the end I was about an
hour on the phone and I've spoken to them three more times since.

These guys, Paul and Matt, run a large number of websites
and were getting totally fed up with the time they had to spend
to maintain them.  So they decided to automate the whole process.
(Sounds easy, IS hard) Their system was designed for conventional
businesses ventures and it certainly delivers excellent value
there.

But they were alert to another possibility: letting their
system loose on the internet marketing community and specifically
to AdSense publishers. That is what our interest is.

In my discussions I learnt the following about the system.

1.It works with AdSense: it lets you add your own AdSense code
to your whole site in a few seconds. And you can then change
the layout of your ads, the colors etc. in a few seconds
anytime you want.

2. You can change the whole layout of your site in a matter of
minutes, no matter how many pages it has in it.

3. You don't need to fiddle about with any HTML because it
works with normal text and let's you switch this into Headings,
bold type etc with the click of a button.

4. It automatically builds and MAINTAINS a site map for you,
something I am absolutely terrible at and which lets me down
all the time (internal links increase SEO effectiveness as
well as the number of pages a typical visitor browses. More
pages seen = more AdSense ads = more AdSense clicks.)

5. It creates every sort of pop under, popover, pop on exits, you
could imagine automatically. Love them or hate them they do
work: I've tested them.

6. It tells you where you've gone wrong with SEO so that you can
correct each page fast (no point in writing a nice page,
shoving in your AdSense code and then finding no one goes there)

7. Automatic document splitting, cool feature this one, it
lets you break up long documents into short web pages that all
link to each other automatically. In other words you can
auto-generate content from long documents as easily as turning
on a tap.  Don't forget you can often find well-written articles
online that you can add to your website free of charge.

8. Do you have any affiliate links? Well, if you do, you can add
new affiliate programs to your site in such a way that it
becomes really simple to manage them: you just tell the system
where to put the links and it looks up the details in a table so
you only have to add your affiliate code once for a whole site.

Saves losing income to typos too.

9. Back ups! I bet you don't back up your website properly.  Well
now you can by pressing a button. Beat that.

So the fact is that the template system we all could do with is
now available and you can use it for as many sites as you want â€“
not just AdSense ones.

It's not expensive.

It is easy to use and it's ideal if you want to roll out
multiple income streams fast. It's also a lot more sophisticated
than you might think. In fact I think the whole thing is
ridiculously underpriced.

Think about it: build 2 sites a week and you could be looking
at 30,000 dollars a year extra automated income. With this system
two sites a week is perfectly manageable.

I think that's a big deal unless you are already pulling in a
7 figure income.

It will take you hard work and it definitely isn't for everyone.
I also can't guarantee you'll succeed but this system gives you
one hell of a good chance particularly if you are determined.

If you decide to get into the affiliate marketing business you can
quickly lose
track of what products you are promoting under which program and what
percentage
you get from each sale.

You will also probably find that setting up appropriate links on your
web pages
so that you get credited for referrals that you make becomes a tedious
aspect
of web maintenance, and then, if you're like me you'll possibly lose
the log
on info from time to time and forget the support email address too.

If any of this sounds familiar, you might like to know about a program

I've been using it for about a week now and have averaged $1.92
per click and made $488 which is not bad.

Two of the big differences between AdSense and other programs
like Clickbooth are that you can't encourage clicks on AdSense
ads whereas you can on many other types of ad.

Secondly, you can't at the moment place AdSense ads in your
emails.

Talking of fast moving, how would you like to have made $109,000
an hour for the last 21 months?

That's how fast YouTube.com's value has grown now that Google
has taken it over.

I've done some other math on the numbers and calculated that
for Google to make its money back in 1 year (not a bad rate of
return) all it needs to do is generate about four and a half
cents per video view which it might well do from AdWords advertising
on the site. And that assumes no growth in the numbers of people
visiting YouTube (an incredible 100 million a day right now!)

The "Google Slap" & AdSense / Headers graphics made easy

I spotted something in one of my clients' AdWords accounts the
other day which puts a different slant on the "Google slap" and
in fact is good news for your AdSense income.

Except that I don't think many other advertisers have spotted it.

Here's the background: Google has been raising the price of clicks
for many keywords substantially and this is becoming a really
serious issue for some advertisers. For example, I have a client
who until very recently (last week) had been bidding around about
20p or 40c for clicks on a keyword that was 100% relevant to
what he has to offer.

A few days back, Google suddenly increased the minimum click price
for some of these keywords to £5 or $10.

At this level they are massively loss-making so we just left
the bid prices where they were and moved on.

I think what Google is trying to do is improve the "quality" of
landing pages but their approach has been too heavy-handed. My
client's ads offer people a newsletter. When they click the ads
they go to a page where they can sign up for, yes, a newsletter.

In other words, the page is 100% inline with the wording of the
ad and inline with the expectations of the clickers.

Furthermore, we know for a fact that this is what visitors want
and expect because historically over 21% of visitors have signed
up: quite a high percentage.

But a little Google algorithm somewhere, in its infinite wisdom,
has calculated that this landing page is not relevant to the
people clicking our ads and has bumped up the minimum bid price
(which is what you end up paying for the click too) and this
has ruined, overnight, a substantial income stream for my client.

It's also stopped a lot of searchers finding what they want.

My client is not alone as I'm sure you've seen if you've been
following the "Google slap" online at all.

But what I discovered (and should have known anyway) is that even
if your keywords are disabled for search (because you are only
prepared to bid less than the minimum bid price) they are still
active in AdSense.

In other words, just because your AdWords campaign is not working
on Google's own search page, your ads can still show up on the
AdSense network.

I've been using this trick to continue to attract low cost leads
for my clients even if their keywords are now inactive in AdWords.
In fact in some cases we have increased the bid prices we are
prepared to pay for AdSense clicks because we need the sales leads.

If other marketers follow this practice, the overall pool of
AdSense revenue will increase but, as I said at the beginning,
I'm not sure many people have noticed.

The small print on your AdWords control panel actually says

"Inactive for search keywords have a Quality Score and Max CPC
which are too low to trigger ads on searches for Google or the
search network but they remain active for content impressions."

But it is definitely small print.

Well, not surprisingly, there's a lot of interest in the videos
I mentioned before the weekend which show you, amongst other
things, how to get a click through rate of 53.9%.

I know that some people couldn't get the link to work but the
problem seems to have been intermittent so it is worth trying again।

The videos walk you through a wide range of AdSense topics including
the all-important Ad Placement process and they include screen
shots of pages that have generated these very high click through
rates.

The systematic approach used looks carefully at the source of traffic
too and turns one aspect of traffic generation on its head: the
author recommends buying traffic targeted at the ADS on your site
rather than the CONTENT of your site.

The process is straightforward: you buy sustainable, low cost, pay
per click traffic using very low cost suppliers (7 suppliers are
recommended EXCLUDING Google AdWords, MSN AdCenter and Yahoo Search
Marketing).

You also go after high volume traffic areas and not very high paying
topics (the reasons for this are explained).

Equipped with a high click through rate site you can then be
sure to make a profit on the traffic cycle provided you have
tested your site and used the Channels facility in your AdSense
control panel to do this properly.

You don't need to be particularly proficient to learn from these
videos and to be able to implement the lessons. In fact, if you
have already got AdSense up and running, I think you'll have
no problem with them.

You will need some time to study them and make site changes
obviously.

How implementable are they? (as one of my readers asked): I'd
say that on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being as hard as melting
butter on a hot stove and 10 being learning to drive, I'll
give them 2 to 3.

So it's really a question of how seriously you want to take your
AdSense business.

Actually no it's not.

It's really a question of how seriously you would take your AdSense
business if you were getting a 53.9% click through rate which
could be a lot more seriously than you take it now.

Do you want Google's new branding on your site?

What do you think of the new-style AdSense ads where the Google
logo is more prominent?

Personally I don't like them.

I don't care if they are apparently good for click through
rates (I need more evidence).

What I do care about is that they show Google stamping their
brand more and more heavily across the internet, which is what
you'd expect from a monopoly player in the market.

It's come at a bad time.

A year or two back, Google could do little wrong and it was a
positive thing to appear to have any association with them.
Now though, things have changed.

Google is dominant and is behaving like a corporate monster.
Google is also beginning to irritate a large number of internet
users who are just the sort of people who visit your site.

Take the YouTube acquisition. Google now offers for free,
intellectual property in the form of TV shows, movies, training
courses etc. that other companies spent billions of dollars
developing. And now that advertising has appeared on YouTube,
Google is making money off someone else's investment.

Knowingly and with planned intention.

Suppose you'd invested a lot of money creating and selling
movies and then one day, Google sets up a shop next door to you
and gives copies of your movies away free â€“ without paying you
any licence fees.

You couldn't compete but you would be entirely reasonable to
complain.

"Oh don't worry" says Google. "We have a mission to
organize the world's information and, besides, our corporate
motto is 'Don't be evil' so we're obviously not being
evil."

Having spoken recently to a lot of AdWords advertisers and
AdSense publishers I detect a growing unease about Google.
They've upset a lot of people with the Google slap.  They talk
about how you need to increase the quality of your website to
avoid it.

That sounds ok, even positive.

But who decides what is good?

Google does. Google is now judging your website and, what's
more, they won't come clean and tell you what a "good"
website is except in very vague terms (the Google Uncertainty
Principle again).

And they get it wrong.

But if they don't like you or your website, you are
effectively out of business.

That is Google power and it is in the hands of people who
aren't behaving like innocent good guys any more even if they
think they are.

Seriously, is that how you want the web to develop?

The solution, of course, is for either Yahoo or MSN (preferably
both and others) to get their act together and become a
competitive force. But they are far behind Google. It seems
obvious to me that the CEO of Yahoo ought to be sacked
immediately and replaced with someone who has the drive and
capability to take on Google before this kind of dominance
becomes truly detrimental to the internet. Yahoo has turned into
a slow moving corporation with all the agility of a dizzy
hippopotamus on an ice rink.

It is not a good online survival tactic.

Let's look at their Search Marketing System that competes,
badly, with Google's: much less traffic and an atrocious
control panel. But apart from being stupidly designed (just log
on to a Google AdWords account to see how to do things properly
boys) I think it has an architectural problem that is holding up
the roll out of YPN (the Yahoo AdSense competitor). If you
advertise on Yahoo in several different countries, you have
several different Yahoo accounts. This discourages international
advertising but it also makes it harder for Yahoo to integrate
Search Marketing with YPN.

I've also read in many places that people who have been allowed
to beta test YPN have been banned if they get too much non-US
traffic.

Well Duh!

And Duh again!

Since when has the internet been a US-only thing? Wake up Yahoo.
I think you'll find that the majority of the world does not
live in the US as a matter of fact.

Yahoo does get right a few things though. You can talk to them
on the 'phone! That is a good and rare thing these days. Long
may it last.

Rant over?

Not quite. Google bought DoubleClick a few weeks back.  It owns
Blogger. It is taking over the Yellow Pages market. More market
dominance. Less choice for advertisers. More monopolistic
behaviour.

I won't get into any details about the way they are scanning
books without publishers' consents and making them available
online and I'll only mention in passing that they know a lot,
lot more about you than you might think or want.

So back to my original question.

Don't get me wrong. AdSense is a great tool for website owners
but from time to time you need to review whether you want to be
blatantly associated with Google. You probably do right now for
the money alone.

But you should at least think it over from time to time and
there really ought, by now, to be a decent competitor.

Generous AdSense alternative

Something a little different today: a neat alternative /
addition to AdSense.

Called AuctionAds it is a free-to-join system that creates ads
that you can tailor to fit to your site's look and feel. It
delivers geo-targetted ads automatically and makes you money by
generating ebay commissions for you without all the bother of
having to sign up for ebay's affiliate program.

Ebay is surprisingly generous with its commission program and
you could make a lot more with this system than you can with
AdSense, especially if you have a site that deals with high value
items because what you earn relates directly to the value of
whatever is being advertised.

Here's are the details taken from ebay's affiliate info pages:-

"Earn between 40% and 65% of eBay's Revenue (not item sale price)
on Winning Bids or Buy It Now (BIN) transactions."  

"Earn between $12.00 and $22.00 for each new eBay active user"

AuctionAds also includes a neat affiliate arrangement that
grants you 2% of the earnings of anyone who signs up via your
link for a period of 6 months.

That's not hugely generous and personally I'd offer lifetime
commissions but what is good about it is that each Auction Ad you
display advertises the service, just as AdSense ads do.

Below the ads are the words "Ads by AuctionAds" rather like
the wording "Ads by Google" that appear under your AdSense
ads.

But with AuctionAds, if anyone clicks on that link to learn more
about AuctionAds, they go to the AuctionAds site via YOUR
affiliate link.

So you get the direct benefit of the referral, something which
doesn't happen with AdSense ads where a lot of your page space
is taken up advertising a service that only Google benefits from.

The drawbacks: you have to set the keywords that will select
your ads which means the process of setting ads up takes a
little bit longer (although this does give you tight control
over what type of ads you'll get). Also, you are limited to
image ads only.

Using Google Adsense in Your Newsletter Archives

Should Ezines, newsletters that you issue weekly or otherwise, always be archived। Why not? This gives you more content pages on your web site. Search engines love you more if you have more pages of good content, so why waste your newsletters. Archive them, and get the maximum benefit of providing more content. But don't archive sales messages, as it doesn't count as content.

Pages on your web site are automatically in html format, but many ezine editors archive in plain text appearance. The format is html, but looks like plain text. This is usually to make it easier for other ezine marketers to pick up these articles in their text-based newsletters, and not to have to delete the html coding.

Personally, I find it much more appealing to read archived articles that have a bit of life to them, with basic html. For exampe, simple bolding of headings and sub headings. And, when your article is copied into a text editor, the bolding doesn't show up anyway. So why not use a touch of class! and use html perks.

The most important thing I find very strange about most archived newsletters is that they do not have Google Adsense ads on the web pages. Well why not? Is it because you just didn't think of doing it, or assumed it's unnecessary.

Or are you assuming no one reads Google Adsense ads from your archives? If you ever go to Article directories to read or copy their articles, you will see that every page has Google Adsense ads. They make their living this way.

Your archived newsletters, those containing good content, are in that same class. My back-issues are read a lot, my archives are very popular. So I do take advantage of this fact and have added Adsense ads to them. It only takes a few minutes to do this after the mailing is done. Believe me, it's worth it for the extra revenue potential.

Adsense vs Chitika, the new kid in town

You've heard about Chitika but need to get a feel for how it differs from Adsense and whether
it'll be of use to you in making more money from your site. We attempt to outline the main differences
between these two major affiliate programs।

The Differences

Age of the program: Adsense has been around for a few years now but Chitika is only a few months old.
In fact, despite all the news and buzz, it's still in beta.

User Base: Having been around for a long time, Adsense is the grandfather of contextual advertising
and has the largest base of publishers competing for the ads it serves. Chitika has only a few publishers
so far but is likely to grow fast especially as it has a referral program paying 10% commissions.

Appearance: Adsense ads are primarily text ads that fit into about 10 standard sizes from 728x90 to
120x600, 468x60 and others. There are a limited number of image ads created by advertisers and pre-approved
by Google. When an image ad runs it tends to fill the whole ad block. Chitika ads come in the same standard
sizes but every single ad space is filled with a hybrid of text and image but, crucially, promoting just one
product from one advertiser. Further, one consistent feature across the Chitika ads is the interactivity.
Each ad has a selection of tabs which change the content of the ad block when a visitor hovers over them.
The tabs provide information like "Best Deals" where prices for that product are compared across different sources,
"Reviews", and even a "Search" box that allows your visitors to search for and get results for similar products
without them having to leave your page.

Terms of Service: Adsense has a fairly restrictive set of terms that you have to agree to. They've been
modified numerous times and when fine tuned are made more rather than less restrictive. Among the things
publishers are not allowed to do are to change the Adsense code, specify keywords that ads should be targeted to,
and have more than three blocks of ads on a page. None of those apply to the Chitika program. There are other
Adsense specific rules that don't apply to Chitika.

Features: Adsense has added several features over the last 2-3 years. They include channels - a way of
identifying which pages are better earners. It's not perfect and isn't anywhere near as efficient as a click
tracker program but it's more than what Chitika have; though they are planning a channels feature soon. Adsense
also provides better stats data (and analysis), AdLinks and other minor improvements. Chitika, on the other hand,
has some interesting features we've never seen in Adsense. They include targeting a particular product or
advertiser in an ad block so it always shows the same product/advertiser, rotating keywords per refresh or by the
day of the week, changing the font and colour of the text in the ad (Adsense offers only colour change, not font
and font size), enabling and disabling contextual serving of ads, enabling and disabling the search function within
ads, and a lot more.

Contextual serving:Adsense serves ads based on the context of the page. Chitika does the same but has the
option of turning context off. Webmasters can choose to either run it in contextual mode or specify the
keywords/products they want the ads targeted to. Note: When running Chitika on the same page as Adsense ads
you need to turn the Chitika contextual engine off to stay within Adsense terms and conditions.

Referral program: Adsense has a new referral program that pays you $100 if you refer someone who signs
up as a publisher provided that referral earns $100. Chitika pays a flat 10% of what your referral earns and pays
that for a period of twelve months from the date of signup.

Earnings: Which pays more? It depends. Chitika can pay very well but it takes a slightly different mindset
to what you may have become accustomed to with Adsense. If you have the patience to learn about it Chitika could

I've been following this latest fantastic little adventure in internet marketing with a great deal of interest।

The Death of AdSense isn't something new. Savvy, big time players (these are NOT most Internet Marketing Gurus) have always said that AdSense isn't a business - it's something that can, CAN, generate an income, but which requires an exit strategy into a real business.

Now, you can take this several ways. It is possible to construct a more or less viable business model around AdSense. But, you need to have a lot more resources than most people who try AdSense as an income source have.

I'm sorry, but this is reality. For most (by which I mean somewhere between 95 and 98% of the people putting up AdSense sites), it's penny scraping and it's hard and it's getting harder.

Sure thing, you can build "authority sites." Uh huh. With PLR content? You think? I doubt it but try it and see.

Let's see who else I can get angry at me.

AdSense content ads still pay decent money in competitive markets - the problem is that competitive markets are difficult to get ranking in and therefore traffic for. Oh, it's possible, but it's an awful lot of work.

The major problem most MFA publishers face is that they don't do the work. Slap up a site and on to the next. Grab a template with a bunch of crummy content and HOPE you'll make a buck or 50 cents a day. Now that's nuts.

CPA (click per action), particularly for decent leads has generally always paid substantially more than something like AdSense. It is something you can establish a stable long-term business on. As long as you can get the traffic.

You can, certainly, get traffic through PPC. You can also lose your shirt. It's not a newbie game. If you're going to do PPC, you have got to do some serious studying and track everything very closely or you can go broke in short order.

Think about this. Say I do a monster hot viral deal and bag 27,000 marketers. And I turn them onto CPA at places that pay me a commission on sign up and a small percentage of the business those new affiliates bring in. Now, we're talking a little serious continuity. Month after month I'm getting a little bit from the efforts of what - 1000, 8000, 12000 people? Bring me another one of those funky drinks with the umbrella, the sun is strong and the beach is beautiful.

Is that worth 50 cents per? I suspect so. And eventually, there's going to be one or more dyn-o-mite products with major price tags, too.

Boy, I'm seriously jealous. We're talking genuine genius stuff here. You see, it doesn't matter a damn whether AdSense is dead or not. A new path can be worth a fortune to those who didn't have a clue - and who are willing to do the learning and the work to make it happen. Most won't, of course. It's a lot of work. But some will and they should do very well.

In one sense, Ad Sense has always been dead. You're throwing away your traffic for pennies. And it's a lot of work to get ANY traffic.

But for most, CPA is going to be a dangerous and potentially ruinous game. It sounds terrific, but nobody's telling you how to get those PPC costs for your landing pages down from maybe 5 or 10 bucks per click. Hey, wake up, remember the Google slap, landing page quality measures, etc.

There are some brilliant, knowledgeable, capable people running around loose who do give out valuable information. They aren't stupid. That means they do it for a reason. You can use their information to improve your business, but you absolutely have to get a grip on their goals too. You have to understand not only what you're doing and why but what they're doing and why.

You are going to have to stop believing blindly everything that sounds terrific and matches, more or less, your own experience. Ugly, but you have to use your head and actually think.

A zillion lemmings running blindly after the latest greatest revelation - it's the same stupid game of looking, over and over, for the one miraculous tool, idea, concept, piece of software that's going to make you a fortune. It isn't going to happen. The magic bullet doesn't exist. Stop wasting your time and money.

Create a workable plan - one you can actually carry out. MFA, affiliate sales, creating your own product, CPA (if you can do the PPC or are willing to learn). Any one of these can make you money. If you stop screwing around looking for the answer and the easy money. There is NO easy money. It's all either work (for most of us) or sheer bloody genius combined with an insane amount of luck (for the few).

Well, I hope I managed to offend everybody who's pulling your chain to suck a couple more nickels out of you. If not, maybe in my next article. But you - you have got to do some very serious work on your BS detector. You need to understand how you are being done to and why. It isn't necessarily a bad thing. You are getting really valuable information, but you still need to evaluate and understand it, not accept it as if Moses were dumping one of those stone tablets on you. Even I'm trying to sell you stuff.

Beware Of Google’s Top Blue Ads

Accidense

Google, the company that launched the number one search engine and a whole host of new services like Gmail, Google Desktop, Google Earth, and the all new Google Checkout, attracts its users with its great yet free products। Google makes money, and lots of it at that, mostly through targeted advertising. Its advertising model, called Adsense, is proven to be beneficial to both advertisers and users alike and has generated much relevant traffic for Adsense advertisers. However, something about the ads’ format has been causing some eyebrows to rise since they result in accidental click to ads and this in turn raises some questions as to how the accidental clicks affect the advertisers.

When searching in Google for certain keywords or key phrases targeted ads from sponsors appear on the top of the search engine results page (SERP). The targeted ads are clearly set apart from the ordinary search results by its blue background and the label Sponsored Links found on the top right corner of the blue area. They are so labeled so that users not interested in the advertisers’ products or services will not mistakenly click on the ads. However according to an article called Accidentally Clicking on Google’s Top Blue Ads, users still do routinely click on the links by mistake. This usually happens when users click on the blue space on the right of the links themselves. The blue space supposed by many to be a non-clickable area, is actually clickable and would lead the user to the advertiser’s site whose link is nearest to the left of the mouse click.

The accidental clicking of ads has actually been a problem noticed as early as November of last year and has lead to the coining of a new word – Accidense. In November 27th of last year TDavid wrote an article entitled "Accidense?". In his article he noticed that some Google ads had more white space that was clickable compared to others. Because of the larger clickable white space of some ads the chance for users of clicking on certain ads by accident is greater. People soon picked up on the word and started calling the accidental clicking on Google’s AdSense ads, Accidense. Note then that accidense is a phenomenon that happens not only on Google’s SERPs but in any of its service – like Gmail – or any website that has AdSense ads in them.

Effect on Google Users

Accidense is a source of irritation to Google users who have no intention of viewing the ads. Of course in comparison to pop-up ads the irritation AdSense ads bring pale in comparison. However, accidense still retracts from user experience and is mostly unproductive for the user. There may be occasions though wherein the accidental click brings users to advertising sites they are actually interested in. This should happen quite often since AdSense ads are targeted ads so that the chance of the user being interested in its contents is much higher than a user accidentally clicking on the usual static ads. But that would only be the case if the user sticks around long enough to know what the ad is actually about before hitting the back button. And since Internet users, especially search engine users, are usually extremely goal driven then the probability that the user will hit the back button even before the advertisers’ ad has fully loaded is greater than the chance that the user will stick around to find out what he had stumbled on accidentally.

Effect on Google AdSense Affiliates and Advertisers

Accidense may be a nuisance to users but is of greater to concern to advertisers. AdSense is a pay per click advertising program, which means that advertisers have to pay for each click their ads generate whether it was accidental or deliberate. Accidental clicks therefore automatically generate profit for both Google and its affiliate website carrying the ad but most often than not doesn’t translate to profit for the advertisers. People are therefore asking how much accidense really affects advertisers.

Commercial advertisers would do well to track just how much their AdSense campaign is benefiting them not only by the amount of clicks they receive. As pointed out in an article on clicks, “Clicks are not a failsafe method of proving anything. Clicks can be automated. Clicks can be fraudulent.”, and in accidense’ case clicks can be accidental. Number of Ads

Multiple ad units can sometimes help optimize your performance. This is especially true for pages with lots of text, forums, and message boards.

However, it could possibly lower your revenues as well. When you show more ads, the ads that are placed lower on the page often have lower bid prices than the ones on top. Therefore, you must test the number of ads on a page to see what works best for you.

When using multiple ad units, make sure that the ad unit with the highest click-through rate appears first within your HTML code. This will ensure that your prime real estate is occupied by the highest paying ads. You can use CSS positioning to get your highest paying ads placed in the location with the highest CTR.

Colors

Ads that blend in with the colors of your site generate the highest click-through rates. In most cases, it is best to use the exact same color scheme for your ads that you use on your web site. To see some good examples of this, check out:

One of the best places for your Adsense ads are at the top-left of the page. Because people are used to seeing navigation on the left side of the page, the eye naturally gravitates to this section of your web site.

As you can see, these sites have placed their adsense ads next to search boxes and navigation links.

Keep in mind that you shouldn't change the layout of your site to fit the ads, but rather use the ad formats that best fit with your site layout.

Images

Many publishers have started using images around their ads. As a result, many of them have doubled their revenues.

One of the most successful implementations of this techniques is to use the 728×90 leaderboard with 4 thumbnail-sized images above each ad. You can see some good examples at:

Forums

If you have a forum, I hope you are monetizing it with Adsense. Many people include Adsense within their web site, but when it comes to their forum, they simply let the ball drop. Forums can definitely be an extra source of income when optimized properly.

AdSense Stats and Performance 101

As more and more people are getting into the AdSense game, there seem to be many questions asked again and again by the newcomers। Here, I have compiled detailed explanations to some common AdSense terms, facts, and performance tips।

Terminology

Real Stats (Figures based on actual performance tracking updated several times a day)
Page Impressions: The number of times an ad unit (a collection of 1 to 4 ads). If you have two ad units on a page, then every time the page loads you get two page impressions. Page Impressions DO include PSA (Public Service Ads) and Alternate Ads.
Clicks: The number of times someone clicks on an ad. Clicks on PSA will be included in this stat as well.
Earnings: Money you’ve made.

Derived Stats (Figures calculated from the real stats)
Clickthrough Rate: Clicks/Page Impressions. It is expressed as a percentage.
Effective CPM:. Earnings per thousand page impressions. Calculated by 1000 X Earnings / Page Impressions
EPC: Your EPC is not displayed because it does not really matter. EPC stands for Earnings Per Click (Earnings/Clicks) and is frequently talked about.

Facts (What we've discovered)

1. Stats Update Frequency/Delay: Although AdSense stats usually updates every couple hours, you don’t need to panic at all if you see no change in your stats for over 12 hours. Even if other webmasters are seeing normal updates.

2. Don’t worry about anomalies in your stats during the course of the day. These are not accurate. There could be delays in the update due to one reason or another. Only when you see figures for a new day can you know that the figures for the previous day are not going to change any more.

3. Sometimes the stats are carried forward several days. This happens when Google decides to freeze your clicks and earnings for fraud checking/tracking purposes or server delays. Thus, you may notice your earnings/clicks shoot straight up when you least expect it. It is possible for your CTR to go up by as much as 10% and your CPM to raise $200 over the normal.

4. The update on the different stats are not synchronized. For example, when you check your account, the page impressions may be freshed updated, while the clicks and earnings are from two hours ago. Thus, there may be a sharp drop/increase in the derived stats. Due to this, you don’t need to fret over all these little bumps.

5. Often delays in updates foreshadow changes to the AdSense program. For example, slow updates preceded introduction of channels, TOS changes, and addition of new languages.

6. Channels are a great way for you to track the performance of your ad on a particular page/site. If you want to use the same code for all of your pages, you can also use the recently added URL channels. Of course, channel data are delayed by two days.

Performance Tips

1. EPC doesn’t matter! That is because you have absolutely no control over your EPC. Your EPC is influenced by many variables including your webpage content, advertiser’s budget, seasonal fluctuations and more. Thus, the productive thing to do is concentrate on the factors that you have control over such as CTR and page impressions.

2. How am I doing?
Many of us probably wonder how we are doing compared to other AdSense users, including myself. However, we really can’t get a good sense of the average if Google doesn't disclose their figures, which they don’t. Since people doing well with AdSense generally don’t like to reveal their earnings due to the fear that they may be terminated by the program, any discussion about an average EPC/CTR/CPM is a waste of time.

3. From various experiments by myself and other webmasters, we can conclude (at least for now) that using image/text ads instead of just text ads will dramatically decrease you CTR because of various reasons. (i.e. fewer advertisers, banner blindness etc.) However, the EPC is usually slightly higher.

4. Blend in or stand out? This is completely site dependent. Sometimes, people will never click on your ads unless you “trick” them into doing so, although this is not so good for long term. Other sites will require your ad to scream in your visitor’s face to get good clicks. Do some extensive testing to find out what’s good for your site.

5. Make good use of the URL filter feature. Blocking repetitive (eBay ads) or boring ads (free smilies) will definitely increase your CTR.

6. Large rectangles placed above the fold will often generate most revenue. However, this may not be a good long term solution since such and ad is usually obstrusive and have little aesthetic value.

7. If you run a forum site, you may notice that your earnings are very low. Here is a solution: use a simple cookie-based php script that only displays AdSense ads once every 10 page views -- essentially a counter counts down from 10 to 0 and on 0 displays an AdSense block. Between the AdSense ads, display regular banner ads. Although your AdSense page impressions may be down, you will notice your CTR skyrocketing, and a large increase in overall earnings.

In conclusion: Play around with your ad to maximize your performance, and look at the big picture in your stats!

Google AdWords Versus Google AdSense - A Vicious Circle of Hypocrisy!

How annoying it can be, when you try to find information through a search of the Internet only to end up at web sites that have paid links to more web sites that have paid links to more web sites and on and on it goes।

Google is responsible for the creation of this nightmare and they and many others are making a fortune from everyone who has legitimately tried to find hard information on a specific subject, by misdirecting the searcher to valueless web sites.

Only on the Internet can such a situation occur, because if it happened anywhere else, the companies involved would be out of business. Imagine reading an advertisement for refrigerators in your local newspaper or hearing about a sale on the radio or television. You load the family into the car and off you go to the store. When you get there, to your dismay, you can’t find any refrigerators - this store only has 20 pieces of advertising on other stores that sell refrigerators. They make money every time they send a customer to one of the other stores. So you grab one of the pieces of advertising, load the family back into the car, and head off to that store, you really want to buy a refrigerator. Surprise, surprise, when you reach this store, they do not have any refrigerators, but they do have a list of 20 other stores where you can get refrigerators and guess what, one of them happens to be the store you went to in the first place.

This is exactly the way that Google AdSense and AdWords works. It is the way that EzineArticles.com makes money, I will admit that in the case of EzineArticles.com and some others, they are providing some information on route, but the key to their success is that someone, be it a visitor or author, will click on one of the Google ads that appear on every page of their website.

Many Internet companies pay for Google AdWord advertising to draw individuals to their site and all they offer in return is a larger group of Google Adword advertisers. The key to their profitability is that you will either click on many ads or click on ads of higher value, hence multiplying the return on their initial Adword advertising investment.

Personally, I find all this ironic and so hypocritical. Google, the Internet search company that theoretically demands fresh content in order to provide you with high search engine ranking, has no problem, if you pay, in directing individuals to web sites that have no true content what-so-ever, just more Google ads. Money really does count!

If you want to put an end or at least a dent into the system, instead of clicking on a Google ad, when you reach a site that is only ads, load the URL of the advertiser in your browser and go to the site in that manner. The company that is hosting the ads of other companies only makes money if you click on the ad, not if and when you load the URL into your browser.

Coolest Idea For Publishers. Adsense Search With Google Toolbar

Adsense has several products under its belt and some are obviously more popular than others। Web publishers have been discussing and comparing adsense products such as referrals and contextual advertising in popular forums such as Digitalpoint. Apparently, referral products and even Google search does not appear as popular as contextual ads. Why is that so?
Publishers only benefit from contextual advertising when visitors click on the ads on the web page. In many instances, in order to achieve that, ads are optimized to blend in nicely with the look and feel of the web pages. When done right, these ads look like relevant links on the site and if visitors are interested in what is being advertised, they will click on the ads. Contextual ads are simple to implement and ads will show on the site within minutes of copying and pasting some simple Javascript code.

In contrast, it is not easy to generate the same amount of revenue using other adsense products such as Google search and referrals. Like contextual ads, implementing Google search involves copying and pasting some code. However, unlike contextual ads, publishers do not benefit when searches are
being made. Each search returns a set of relevant results and if there are ads for those keywords, they will appear as sponsored results at the top of the page. The publisher only earns when the visitor clicks on one of those sponsored ads. So let's recap. The visitor has to key in some keywords, click on the search submit button, wait for the results to load, and IF he or she clicks on an ad, the publisher earns some money. Compare that to contextual ads, where the visitor simply have to make a simple click and the money is credited to the publisher's account.

It is even more difficult to convert visitors to revenue using Adsense referral products, although each conversion generally pays more. For example, refer a publisher to the Google Adsense program and if the publisher makes $100 within 180 days, another $100 will be credited to the publisher who sent the referral. That means the visitor has to visit a site, somehow locate the Adsense referral button, click on it, read more about the program, sign up and wait for approval. Recently I've figured out several ways how to solve this

1- Try adding META tags to your web page. The most
important tags are TITLE, DESCRIPTION and KEYWORDS.

2- Rename your html file. Don't use a generic name.
Instead, use your keyword(s) as your file name. For
example, if the page is about making money with Adsense,
simply name it make-money-with-adsense.htm.

3- Try refreshing your page again and again until you see
relevant ads displayed. You can refresh the page by
clicking on the refresh button, or pressing F5 key on your

Adsense, Boost Your Payout 400%, No Really

Dead easy.

I implemented this tactic myself yesterday on one of my sites and my CTR has gone up 300% and it hasn't been 24hrs yet. Needless to say I'll be spending the rest of the morning making changes to my Adsense ads across my site network.

What is it?

Sorry can't resist a little intrigue.

It's very simple. Using the Leaderboard banner 728 x 90 I added small images/photos above each ad at 140 x 100.

These photos are broadly related to the ads and draw the eye of the visitor to the ad. Which the ad alone maybe would not do. Once their eye is drawn they read the ad text below the image and they are much more likely to click.

Google already knows of this tactic and I know a number of people have approached them via email before implementing the images. Obviously nobody wants their account suspended. The good news is Google are fine with it, for now at least. Although a few warnings have gone out with regard to animated images not being appropriate. So no flash or animated gifs!

Now I hope this is new information to you. If so I know it's going to be damn useful. And most of all profitable!

The benefit of this over Google's own 'image ads' is, you choose the image for one and the basic text ad appeals for another. As I'm sure you're aware text ads work better than image ads. This seems to work better than both separately by combining them together, the major boost comes from you being able to select the most relevant image to your site content.

You have to try alternatives and see what really works best for you, on your pages, with your content and your visitors. Test, test, test some more. Track your results, analyze them, try variations. Too many of us don't test. We hear the mantra, but we don't do the work.

First, let's see if we can get an idea about location. (The graphic is included in the article on my site or you can take a look at it at the Google link included below) Generally, above the fold, at the top center of your content, below top navigation is the hottest location. Not immediately below which is good but not quite as hot. In a left sidebar, to the immediate left of primary content or below the primary content are also good. Most other locations are generally cooler.

Again, you need to test and you need to consider your users behavior - and their behavior may vary on different pages with different kinds of content. Google suggests that in some cases, such as articles, the best location can be at the end of the article. To quote Google, "It's almost as if users finish reading and ask themselves, What can I do next?" Well targeted relevant ads right there can provide the answer.

Don't blindly assume that sticking a nice big rectangle in the center above the fold will do it. It may, but depending on your content, it may annoy or inconvenience your users.

Users tend to focus on content, navigation and to a lesser extent graphics. Positioning your ads near these elements will often work well -- if those ads are targeted to your visitors needs.

The top three performers among the Google ad formats are the 336X280 large rectangle, the 300X250 inline rectangle and the 160X600 wide skyscraper. Google reports that the wider formats tend to do better than the taller ones. One reason may be that these are, perhaps, easier to read since they have fewer line breaks and require less eye movement. But, you need to use formats that fit your pages well. Once again, you need to test, but redoing your pages to suit a particular ad format may not be a reasonable alternative and you may discover that a different format actually gets better results.

Now we come to color. Conventional wisdom says that colors which tend to blend into your content do better. Some go so far as to suggest that colors which make the ads look like part of the content are best. Personally, I think anybody really believes those ads are anything but ads, but who knows. Google suggests that you may find that colors that standout from your content do better - or maybe the opposite. This is absolutely an area where you need to test alternative color schemes. Going with the conventional wisdom usually works fairly well, but without testing you could be leaving a lot of money on the table.

Google allows you to have up to three ad units and one link unit on your pages. If you have long pages with lots of text, can only use small ad units or are in a niche with a large ad inventory, multiple units can pay off. Keep in mind that the way ad serving works is that the higher value ads are delivered to the first ad unit block encountered in your code. Always make sure that this first ad unit is displayed in the best location (yeah - test). You want the higher paying ads to be in the prime hot location on your page. Weaker locations can get the lower priced ads. And if none are available, then nothing will display unless you've included an alternate ad URL in your Google code. To maximize monetization you should be including alternate ad URLs, especially if you are putting multiple units on a page. The use of an alternate ad URL also eliminates the possibility of being served PSAs (Public Service Announcements). It's your real estate, maximize your returns.

Nothing here is secret. Except for using the alternate ad URL, all of this information is available from Google's Optimization Tips page - http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html . You can buy books and courses, visit a dozen forums and, in the end it comes down to what your visitors do on your site. The best you can get is general guidance. This means averaged outcomes over many sites, many types of content. If you are serious about doing whatever you can to really optimize your AdSense returns, there is only one thing to do - test. Whether it's AdSense, opt-ins, copy, headlines - anything with a measurable outcome that you can track - then the way to improve is to test and keep on testing.

I often wonder if those guys at Google fully understood the impact of what they were doing when they decided to open Adsense for smaller sites and blogs with very little traffic. How I Got Paid $250 for Reporting an Adsense Cheater!

Let me tell you a story about karma and how I made $250 by reporting an Adsense cheater!

It started when I came upon a web site where some kid was blatantly breaking the rules by asking his buddies to click on his Adsense ads.

This has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves! Why do people think they can break the rules at the expense of other peoples' AdWords budgets?

So I did what a lot of people do... I contacted Google!

I figured Google would shut this punk down immediately. Boy was I wrong!

Every time I went back to this kid's web site the message asking his friends to click the ads were still there! This went on for a few weeks and I really started to get ticked off at the lack of response on Google's part.

So I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I used this software I created called "Google Sponsor Lister" (You can get it at AdsenseSchool.com) to find every sponsor who was targeting this kid's niche.

I contacted each sponsor directly and told them there was a chance their ads were being displayed on a cheater's site. I figured if THEY complained to Google, something would happen!

Well I guess I was right! One of the sponsors emailed me back two days later and said:

"I want to thank you for pointing out the kids clicking on my ads. I turned it over to my Google rep, and he called today to let me know Google is disabling their account. Also, he said Google is crediting me a decent amount for fraudulent clicks over the last quarter. What's your address? I'd like to send you a little thank you gift."

How awesome is that? I was so excited! Not because he was going to send me a "thank you gift"... but because I figured out how to get that punk shut down!

It's funny how Google shut this kid down in TWO DAYS because a sponsor contacted them but when I had been trying for weeks, nothing happened. Makes you think...

Anyway... I told him he didn't have to thank me and he definitely didn't need to send me a gift. I was just happy to know I saved him a couple bucks and this punk got his account canceled.

He replied with the following...

"Thanks again. I actually spend several hundred thousand dollars a month on Google, so at least they responded to me quickly. Also, the rebate they gave me was fairly substantial (several thousand). I'd really like to buy you an Amazon gift certificate or an iPod or something if you'd like to tell me how to send it to you, because I don't think I would have been proactive about this if you hadn't contacted me. Either way, it's great that you're being a good samaritan."

SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS? I thought I saved him a couple bucks at most!

I was floored when I read that because I knew Adsense cheaters hurt sponsors but I never thought it was that bad!

So I told him if he REALLY wanted to send me an iPod or an Amazon gift certificate, I wouldn't stop him! ;-)

He ended up sending me an Amazon.com gift certificate worth $250!

Long story short... I am now a true believer in Karma! :-D

I think this teaches us a couple important lessons...

First, telling Google about Adsense cheaters is fruitless... but informing the sponsors, and asking them to contact Google, works immediately!

And second, ripping off AdWords sponsors is big business. Don't think for a second it's a victimless crime!

Oh and now I'm a true believer in Karma!

Maybe you won't make $250... but at the very least you'll help get rid of another Adsense thief and save a business owner some money!

How to Get Back in AdSense

A number of web site owners are getting kicked out of the AdSense program when they have done nothing wrong to deserve such a punishment। Many are left wondering what they have done wrong and what can they do to get back in Adsense. Below is a few steps that you can use to attempt getting back in AdSense and also shows you how to minimize the chances of this problem becoming one of your own.

Click fraud is the most common reason people get kicked out of the AdSense program. It's also the first one we'll take a look at. Majority of web hosts offer access logs, if your web host offers access to logs make sure you hand this over to Google as well. This will allow Google to look for any suspicious activity on your site and shows Google that you take this problem seriously enough that you'll help them in anyway you can.

It also helps if you have click monitoring software, you should turn over all the information you receive from your click monitoring software to Google. You may want to go so far as disabling ads for your own IP address and local geographic area. This prevents accidents and makes sure Google doesn't mistake an other user as you. Do not ask visitors to click on your ads, Google's TOS (Terms Of Service) makes it clear that this is not allowed.

Keep AdSense off of popup or popunders. The ads should not be displayed on content that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others. The ads also can't be displayed on content that's considered adult or on gambling content. If you are breaking any of those rules you should Immediately remove the content or AdSense from the web page.

Confess to Google about any times where you might have clicked on your own ads or otherwise where you did something that's against the TOS (Terms Of Service). Be honest and up front about anything you may have done that was wrong. If you lie they'll eventually learn or already know about it and you'll never get back in if that's the case. So be HONEST, nice and up front about everything!

Contact Google, don't just send off a random email to them. Be polite and honest. Provide anything that may be a help to them. Tell Google you are sorry and why this situation will not happen again in the future. It's important to point out the steps you have taken to prevent this from happening again later on, such as click monitoring software or blocking certain IP addresses.

How to minimize the chances of you getting kicked out.

The first step you should take is disable ads for your own IP address, this makes sure that the ads won't be displayed to you, which insures no accidents can happen. You can do this via a .htaccess file. You may also want to do the same thing for IP numbers coming from the same geographic area as yours. Google may mistake this as you clicking on your own ads and kick you out because of it.

If you don't already have click monitoring software you really should get one. There's no reason why you can't get one because most of them are free. Remember to report any activity that's odd. This shows Google you too are fighting against click fraud and are not part of it. Study your server logs and watch for any activity that's suspicious. As you should do with the click monitoring software, you should also report anything that's odd to them.

Don't tell your family or friends about AdSense on your web site. They may click on your ads to help you make more money without knowing that they could be doing more harm to you then good. And if you happen to tell a family member or friend or they somehow find out about it, make sure they understand that they can't click on your ads under any circumstance what so ever.

How to add photos to your Google Adsense ads

We all know that using Google Adsense is a fun and easy way to make money online। And, we know that the more clicks our ads receive, the more money we make. So, how do you increase your CTR?
Increasing your CTR (Click Through Ratio) is as easy as adding a few pictures above your ads. Here is how to do it:

I will assume that you have an Adsense account. If not, hop on over to Google to get one – it is FREE. I also have to assume that you know a little bit about making changes to your web pages. Making the changes to the Adsense ad is as easy as “Copy and Paste.”

First thing to do is replace the brackets [] with less than/greater than symbols <>. “Find and Replace” in Word or Notepad is the easiest way to do this.

Then you will have to change “X” to the location of your pictures – so it will look something like
/images/abc.jpg or domainname.com/foldername/picturename.
This is where you have uploaded your 4 pictures. I recommend you resize them to 140X100 before you upload them. Use pictures that are related to your ads. Make sure that you don’t violate any copyright laws.

You will also have to replace the line “GOOGLE AD CODE HERE 728x90” with your Google Adsense code for a 728X90 Leaderboard. You can get this code at the Adsense content page. Tweak it a little to get the link, text, background, and border colors the way you want them and that should do it.

You can also do this for different size ads – experiment a little bit – but the main idea is to attract attention to your ads to get additional clicks.

Web Traffic For Adsense: A Primer, Pt. 1

I was reading through some posts on other websites the other day। There was a hot topic about how to get traffic to your site, and I thought I'd share some of the things that people said, beacuse I've done it for my sites, and noticed that this particular course of action worked for me as well.
There are so many different so-called "easy" ways to get traffic, that it's pretty ridiculous. All you have to do is type the word "web traffic" into Google, and you'll get a host of different programs, websites, ebooks, etc, telling you how to do it. You'll get bombared with ads for PPC, banners, link exchanges, FFAs, newsgroups, etc.

And the thing about it is this: Most of them do not work. Let me repeat that in big letters to override that 36-point type you read on that web page that says, "We'll Get You Traffic In 24 Hours, Guaranteed" along with the testimonials that were probably made up: THEY DO NOT WORK!!!

So you ask: what does work? How can I get traffic to my site?

But outside of content, we're going to take a minute, and talk about promotion. What do you have to do to get consistent traffic coming to your site?

I'm going to break this up into a multi-part series. I know that I have another series that I'm putting together as well on Adsense sites in general. I promise, that's still coming as well. But for now, let's talk traffic...

I am assuming that you've picked a Adsense topic already. If not, I offer a free Adsense keyword list, updated every 2 weeks. To get it free, go to www.axalda.info/topkeywords.html and check out the 500 Top keywords, absolutely free. It'll give you an idea about what's hot and what's not.

1. Get a good domain name for your site.
Your site should have your Adsense keyowrd in the site. It will give it relevance, and give your site credibility if it's found VIA a search engine. Is it important? If you can get a domain name that reflects the keyword, you should try to get it, but if you can't, it will probably only hurt you in search engine relevance in the future steps of your promotional traffic plan, as you'll see later.

2. Blog it, baby!
You got content? Then you need to blog it (for the time being). I recommend WordPress to do your blog. It seems to be the favorite of people in the blogging community.

Now the thing about blogging your content is this, and WordPress makes this especially handy. You need to ley others know you have new content in your blog. And WordPress does that automatically (for the most part) everytime I write a new blog entry. It does what is called a "ping". A ping is a prompt sent to other websites that tracks the updates of blogs. Looking back in time, I could still remember standing in awe and reading the exploits of one adsense guru who was starting a membership service for people keen to maximise their earnings as a google adsense publisher। He claimed to be making over $40K a month from his google adsense revenue and an almost equal amount from affiliate products.

In my mind,I could not help but believe that if he could be so successful, I could also be successful...and everyone can also be equally successful in developing content websites and allowing google adsense to be published on these websites.

Months followed later where I carried out research on Google Adsense, talked to people who were successful publishers, joined a couple of memberships sites myself, read a few ebooks on the subject, spent hundreds of dollars on tools and webpage generating software...the whole works.

My aim was simple - uncover the successful methods and make at least one of these techniques as mine and be equally successful , if not better.

What were my results? Briefly, there were 3 models that could lead to success. There might be more, but these 3 models figured prominently as I carried out my personal private research.

The Content Model

In the content model, a mini site is developed for a niche project. Generally, you would find the keywords for niche topics with a low R/S value, build a theme around these keywords and work out a mini website of around 20 to 50 pages.

The key to such a website is written content.

In many cases, I found reprint rights articles were also used and these were also sites that were successful in bringing in consistent traffic and revenue. Each page is normally written around just one keyword and the entire webpage is tightly SEOed (search engine optimized).

THE SINGLE-PAGE MODEL

In the second model, a one page article forms the website with google adsense on that article.

In order to feature prominently, website promotion is necessary for this model. This is effected by submitting articles to many article depositories and ezine publishers using automated softwares and gathering links in return.

THE NUMBERS GAME MODEL

This is by far the model that was reported to be widely successful.

This model is based on the concept of " Build, Build and Build!". In other words, an incessant non-stop drive to keep on building websites and treating the business as stricly one of providing workable content sites for publishing adsense. However, care must be exercised at all times to follow Google Adsense Terms of Service.

A prominent feature of this model was to use some form of auto generating software such as softwares that can generate directories or portals, the use of RSS and blogging to maintain and update the sites on a daily basis or a series of rotating templates.

Care must also be keenly exercised that the sites must have content, and not merely appear spammy with results scrapped from search engines. One piece of advice from a veteran adsense publisher was that he would run over his sites such that he was clearly satisfied that the web pages were actually pleasing to a visitor and that the webpages were designed for humans.

Often quoted by proponents of Model 3 is that the key to maximizing google adsense revenue and indeed affiliate revenue was to engage in a "numbers game". The more websites you build and commission, the higher is the revenue provided your keyword research is well done. In one case, one publisher claimed that his 65 years old mother could also work on this model by using a RSS system and was earning a good income just a few weeks into the model.

To avoid being a "thin affiliate" and risk being penalised by Google, most sites would add in advertisements from Amazon, or Clickbank and a host of other affiliate programs.

Now the problem is, Google is pretty closed-mouthed about who is paying what for their ads, and there is no real way to determine which words pay the most per AdSense click.

But ah, far away in a parallel universe we find another Pay-Per-Click provider called Overture. It seems that Overture is less sensitive about releasing their top-priced words and anyone who cares to find out what web sites are paying for words and phrases can do so by simply using Overtures tattle-tale special pricing tool (http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/). And it couldn’t be easier to use. You simply type in a key word or phrase and the tool returns a list of advertisers using that word and how much they are paying. It even shows you the actual ad.

Oh what a treasure trove of wealth-grabbing results this can be if you know what can be done with that priceless information.

Consider this possibility

Any key word or phrase that’s worth big bucks on Overture is probably worth big bucks on Google as well, maybe even more, right? So try this experiment:

Enter the phrase “SEO Services” without the quotes in the Overture tool (http://www.pixelfast.com/overture/). When I entered that phrase on the day I wrote this article, I was found a company called SEO Inc. that was willing to pay $8.01 per click, followed by SEO Advantage at $8.00, and Online Web Consultants at $6.50. Other bidders appeared below them in the $3.00 range straight on down to some who wouldn’t pay more than a dime per click.

Now, if a company is willing to pay that much money for a click on Overture, it is probably willing to pay that or more on Google. Even if that particular company isn’t advertising on Google, you can be pretty sure that the same key phrase is drawing near the same bid price from other companies who do advertise on Google. So what that means is there is no way that you can possibly afford NOT to have some web pages posted somewhere that are targeted to those sweet-paying words.

All you have to do is use Overture’s pricing tool to find the highest-paying key words that are related to your site and then optimize those words to start pulling similar ads. If all goes to plan, you can perhaps double, triple, or even quadruple your AdSense revenue without needing any increase in traffic or click-through rate.

10 Great Things NOT to Do with Google AdSense

There is no question that you can make some good money with Google AdSense, but you’re setting yourself up for disaster if you make any of these Top 10 mistakes!

1. Do not use fake information when opening your Google AdSense account.

Google says that’s a no-no and they will cut your account off and keep all the money you may have earned. Besides, trying to hide your true identity can cause serious problems with the I.R.S. or whoever your tax authority is.

2. Do not hack or modify Google AdSense code other than to change the parameters that Google authorizes you to change.

Any attempt to bypass Google’s built-in algorithms not only poses a danger to the integrity of the network, but it threatens the financial modle that Google operates under. You’re not dealing with some Mom-and-Pop company here, and Google has the legal muscle and deep enough pockets to drag you through every court in the land if you damage their business with your hacking antics.

3. Keep AdSense ads off of your registration, confirmation, and all "thank you" pages.

Don’t ask me why you can’t put your ads there. It makes sense to me that those would be wonderful locations. Google thinks otherwise, however, and doing so is a hanging offense according to their Terms of Service.

4. Do not display AdSense ads and a competitor's ads (like Overture's) on the same page at the same time.

That just makes plain good sense. Google doesn’t demand 100% SITE loyalty from you, but they do insist that their own ads not be cluttered up by offerings from their competitors.

5. Don't "beg for clicks" or provide any incentive for clicking on your Google AdSense ads.

This is a biggie and you see this rule violated all the time. Any of the “get paid to do stuff” sites that put Google ads in the member’s control panels are walking the plank and they don’t even realize it. Even those sites with the polite little messages asking you to “help keep my site running by clicking on our sponsor’s ads” are asking to be cut off if those happen to be Google ads.

6. Never click on the ads running on your own site, even if you are genuinely interested in the product or service and are thinking of buying it!

Nothing screams FRAUD louder than a webmaster running up his or her own click counts by happily clicking on ads fromtheir own site. The Google Gods can track this activity and it won’t be long until you find yourself getting a goodbye note from their fraud team.

7. No misleading labeling

Google is very specific about what text can be placed around their ads. Their Terms of Service state: “Publishers may not label the ads with text other than ‘sponsored links’ or ‘advertisements.’ This includes any text directly above our ads that could be confused with, or attempt to be associated with Google ads.”

This is to keep visitors from becoming confused and barking up Google’s tree when they clicked on an ad that led to a porn site instead of the recipe site they were expecting to visit.

8. Avoid keyword spamming and other divisive tricks

You may be tempted to buy one of those “generates thousands of key-word rich pages in seconds” programs that are so popular these days but I’ll tell you this: Their days are numbered. Google is wise to such shenanigans and they will be hot on your trail. Other prohibited gimmicks include:

• ”Sneaky” page redirects that send a visitor off to a different site then they were expecting to visit.

• Multiple sites, domains, pages, etc. which have substantially duplicate content.

• Hidden text or links of any type.

• Excessive outbound links on any page. Google recommends no more than 100. I’d keep it way below that.

• And here is a nugget of wisdom straight from Google’s mouth: “Do not participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web as your website may be affected adversely by those links.

9. Don’t advertise anything on Google’s prohibited items list.

It’s a lot shorter lists than PayPal’s or eBay’s, but it includes a lot of the same stuff like hacking/cracking content, porn, illegal drugs, gambling sites, beer or hard alcohol (I guess wine is OK), weapons, and the other usual stuff.

10. And the 10th dumbest thing NOT to do with Google AdSense is to let the other nine things stop you from running an honest site that’s designed to make the most out of this very profitable opportunity that Google offers!
